One of the keys to keeping your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is keeping them cool. Keeping your MacBook cool will not only optimize your performance while you are using it, but it will also help extend the life of your MacBook.
There are different form factors and options for good cooling pads. A good cooling pad will offer the following features:
Air flow underneath your MacBook will help keep it cool. Air flow can either be created with space under your MacBook, with fans, or with both. Keeping the air moving will prevent your laptop from overheating.
The material you set your MacBook laptop on will make a difference in its operating temperature. You will want it to set on a hard surface such as metal or plastic. Metal can stay at cooler temperatures and help keep the temperature down.
Some additional features that you may want to consider would also be things like added USB ports for power that come with the laptop cooling pad. Some cooling pads are also adjustable which may increase how comfortable it is to use your MacBook while it is on top of the cooling pad.
One thing to note is that many of the cooling pads on the market right now are powered by either USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 and not USB-C. Therefore if you have a MacBook that is equipped with only USB-C you will have to find a different power source than the MacBook itself.
